Rains force the suspension of the clash between Estrellas and Águilas at Estadio Cibao

The intense rainy activity affecting the northern area of the Dominican Republic caused the interruption and subsequent suspension of the match being played this Wednesday between the Estrellas Orientales and the Águilas Cibaeñas. The game, corresponding to the 2026-2027 winter baseball season calendar, could not be completed due to the adverse weather conditions that affected the field at Estadio Cibao.

The game was officially halted during the top of the second inning, at which point the score reflected a scoreless tie. Given the persistence of the rainfall, the stadium maintenance crew proceeded to place protective tarps over the field; however, after an exhaustive evaluation of the conditions, the officiating crew determined that the field did not offer the necessary guarantees for the resumption of play.

Details about the rescheduling

  • The Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) will soon announce the official date and time for when the rescheduled game will take place.
  • This is the first matchup of the 2026-2027 campaign to be affected by rain, a season that pays posthumous tribute to businessman Héctor José Rizek Llabaly.
  • The next scheduled meeting between both teams at the Águilas’ home stadium is set for Wednesday, November 4th, at 7:30 p.m.

The safety of the players and the integrity of the field are our priority, which is why the decision has been made to postpone the match to a date that will be announced in due course by the league.
