Historic night: Tigres del Licey achieve a combined “no-hitter” against the Toros del Este
The Tigres del Licey starred in an unforgettable day at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, shutting out the Toros del Este with a 3-0 score in a masterful performance from the mound. The blue pitching staff achieved the feat of holding the home offense hitless, consolidating a no-hitter that will remain marked in the records of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).
An impeccable collective effort
The success of the capital city team lay in the depth of its bullpen. A total of seven pitchers combined to silence the Toros’ bats, maintaining absolute control throughout the entire journey. The pitchers who wrote their names on this golden page were:
- Luis Gil
- R. Clemente
- A. Cornielle
- M. Arias
- L. Frias
- W. Suero
- Jean Carlos Mejia
This is the 12th no-hitter in LIDOM history and represents the fifth achieved by the Tigres del Licey franchise, reaffirming their historical dominance in Dominican winter baseball.
Background and relevance
For the Tigres del Licey, the La Romana venue seems to be fertile ground for these feats. This is the second time in recent years that the blue team has managed to no-hit the Toros del Este in the same stadium. The most recent precedent occurred on November 1, 2022, when five pitchers shut out the bull team with a score of 2-0.
With this triumph, Licey not only adds vital victories in the championship, but also positions itself once again in the history of the league, being the first team to achieve a no-hitter since the Estrellas Orientales did so on November 7, 2023, precisely against the same Tigres.
