Colombian football legends unite in Bogotá for the “Let’s Lift Colombia” cause
The El Campín stadium in Bogotá will be the stage this Friday for an unprecedented sporting event. Under the slogan “Let’s Lift Colombia,” a group of historical figures and current stars of national soccer will gather for a charity match aimed at raising funds for the victims of the devastating earthquake that occurred on August 10th.
The initiative, led by former defender Mario Yepes, has generated a massive response from the fans, managing to sell out tickets in less than 48 hours. The central objective is to provide tangible relief to the families and communities that lost their homes and livelihoods after the earthquake.
A display of stars on the court
The match will feature the participation of 36 prominent footballers who have left their mark on the history of the sport in the country. Among the confirmed names are:
- Radamel Falcao García and Carlos “el Pibe” Valderrama.
- Juan Guillermo Cuadrado and Camilo Zúñiga.
- Faryd Mondragón, Óscar Córdoba and Carlos Sánchez.
- Juan Pablo Ángel, Jackson Martínez and Teófilo Gutiérrez.
- Giovanni Moreno, Macnelly Torres, Fabián Vargas and Fredy Guarín.
- John Javier “Choronta” Restrepo, Giovanni Hernández, Cristian Zapata, Gerardo Bedoya and Carlos Valdés, among others.
The technical management of the teams will be in charge of two icons of Colombian soccer: Francisco “Pacho” Maturana and René Higuita. It is speculated that Higuita himself could play some minutes on the field, adding a special touch to the event.

The earthquake on August 10th has left a tragic toll of 319 people dead, 260 missing, and more than 4,500 injured, according to data from the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management. Faced with this crisis, Mario Yepes, a native of one of the hardest-hit areas like Cali, promoted this event to transform soccer into a vehicle for hope and mutual support.
With this meeting, the athletes seek not only to raise financial funds, but also to send a message of unity to the entire national territory, demonstrating that sport is a powerful tool for social reconstruction after the tragedy.
