The Queens of the Caribbean begin their journey to defend the title at the NORCECA Continental Championship
High-level women’s volleyball returns to Dominican soil. The Queens of the Caribbean are ready to undertake the defense of their crown at the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship, an event that will be primarily hosted at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace, in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The national team’s debut will be this Friday at 8:30 p.m. against Costa Rica.
The Dominican team arrives at this important commitment with the momentum of having recently won its seventh consecutive title at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Now, the goal is twofold: to retain the continental crown and consolidate its path toward what would be its fifth participation in an Olympic Games, with its sights set on Los Angeles 2028.
A tournament with great challenges and World Cup spots
The Dominican Republic will seek to assert its home-field advantage, having been crowned champions in the last three editions of the tournament (2019, 2021, and 2023). This competition not only puts the regional title on the line but will also grant three direct spots for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.
The competition format and the distribution of the teams is as follows:
- Group A: United States, Canada, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago.
- Group B: Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Costa Rica.
The goal is clear: to maintain regional hegemony and secure Olympic qualification. Every match at the Volleyball Palace will be a necessary battle to continue climbing the rankings and fulfill the dream of representing the country in Los Angeles 2028.

Opening day details
The action will begin this August 21st starting at 1:00 in the afternoon, following the opening ceremony. The schedule for the first day of competition is as follows:
- 1:00 p.m. — United States vs. Trinidad and Tobago
- 3:30 p.m. — Canada vs. Mexico
- 6:00 p.m. — Puerto Rico vs. Cuba
- 8:30 p.m. — Dominican Republic vs. Costa Rica
The preliminary round will run until August 23. The leaders of each group will automatically qualify for the semifinals, while the teams in second and third place will have to play in the quarterfinals, scheduled for August 24. The semifinals will be played on the 25th and the grand final will be decided on August 26.
With four titles under their belt (2009, 2019, 2021, and 2023), the Queens of the Caribbean are preparing for an intense week where they will seek, in front of their home fans, to continue writing golden pages in the history of Dominican volleyball.
