Three months of preventive detention ordered against Lenin Núñez for the death of Emmanuel Contreras
The Dominican judicial system has reached a determination in the case that has shocked the community. Judge Rigoberto Sena, head of the Permanent Attention Office of the National District, ordered three months of preventive detention this Wednesday for Lenin Núñez de León, who is accused of being responsible for taking the life of young Emmanuel Contreras Medina with a baseball bat.
Following the coercion measure hearing, it was ordered that the defendant serve said sanction at the Najayo Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center, where he will remain incarcerated while the Public Prosecutor’s Office deepens the investigations corresponding to the criminal process.
Details of the tragic event
The unfortunate incident took place on July 1st in the Los Praditos sector, in the National District. According to the accusatory file, the victim, Emmanuel Contreras Medina, traveled to the location for the purpose of completing the purchase of a cell phone that had been offered through the Facebook Marketplace platform.
According to the version presented by the authorities, the transaction led to a violent assault. The Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains that Lenin Núñez used a bat to strike Contreras Medina multiple times, causing him serious injuries that ultimately led to his death.
The victim’s family’s technical defense has pointed out that the opposing party failed to sustain their version of the facts before the bench, allowing the judge to evaluate the evidence presented to impose the precautionary measure.
