Poteleche will take his social satire to the FOTOCOM 2026 International Congress

The prominent Dominican creative and cartoonist, Rafael de los Santos, popularly known as “Poteleche”, will be part of the expert panel at the first International Congress of Photojournalism and Strategic Visual Communication, FOTOCOM 2026. His presentation, titled “Can a cartoon challenge power?”, is scheduled for Thursday, August 27th at 11:00 in the morning.

In this space, the artist will explore how graphic humor has established itself as a fundamental communication tool for interpreting national reality, questioning official discourses, and fostering public debate on issues of high social and political impact.

The impact of the editorial cartoon on public opinion

With a consolidated trajectory, Poteleche has transformed satire into a tool for daily analysis. His work, which reaches thousands of people daily, has become a benchmark for how drawing can simplify complex realities and provoke critical reflection among citizens.

In this profession, one has certain licenses, which is why historically the humor cartoon has pointed at figures of power, questioning them or highlighting something the author considers relevant. This often becomes the trigger for a challenge, not only on the part of the author, but of all those who see this drawing and understand something they had not previously perceived.
