Paraguay will host the Fuerzas Comando 2026 military competition
The stage for continental military excellence moves to Paraguay. From August 24 to 28, the South American country will host the 2026 edition of Fuerzas Comando, a prestigious multinational exercise organized by the United States Southern Command that brings together the most outstanding elite units from 21 nations in the Americas.
The official announcement took place this Wednesday in Asunción, at the General Headquarters of the Military Forces Command. The presentation was led by the Minister of National Defense, Óscar González Cañete, accompanied by the Commander of the Military Forces, César Augusto Moreno Landaira, and the general coordinator of the event, Fredy Roberto Oviedo Cáceres.
A high-level tactical encounter
For five days, highly trained soldiers from various countries will test their capabilities in tactical operations, specialized techniques, and cooperation protocols. The central objective of this edition is to strengthen interoperability and mutual trust among participating nations in the face of contemporary challenges such as organized crime and terrorism.
This tournament will allow for strengthening trust and cooperation with the countries of the Americas, promoting the exchange of knowledge and tactics fundamental to regional security.

Participating countries and Colombian dominance
The list of nations that will be part of this sporting and military feat includes Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and the United States.
One of the great attractions of the competition is the performance of the Colombian delegation, which arrives as the powerhouse to beat after having won 13 of the 18 editions held previously. Their discipline and vast experience in special operations position them once again as the rivals to beat.
Paraguay resumes organizational leadership
After having hosted in 2006 and 2017, Paraguay returns to host this event after a nine-year wait. The designation was made official last September during the closing of the 2025 edition in El Salvador. This event is added to the military cooperation agenda recently strengthened by the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) signed between Paraguay and the United States at the end of last year.
The development of Fuerzas Comando 2026 follows in the wake of the recent Panamax 2026 exercises, held in early August in Panama, consolidating a summer of intense strategic and professional activity for armed forces across the continent.
