Oneil Cruz returns to the Major Leagues with a decisive home run for the Pirates
Star Dominican player Oneil Cruz made a triumphant return to the field after overcoming an injury that kept him away from action for 58 games. In his first game after being activated from the 60-day injured list, Cruz hit an imposing two-run home run that proved fundamental in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 4-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
The Dominican, who was recovering from fractures in his left hand, demonstrated that his offensive capacity remains intact. In the fifth inning, facing pitches from Venezuelan starter Keider Montero, Cruz deciphered a knuckle curve on a 2-2 count to send the ball disappearing over the center and right field fences.
We are excited to see you back in the lineup. It means a lot to us

A quick triumph in Pittsburgh
The Pirates’ dominance was backed by a masterful performance from starter Braxton Ashcraft, who pitched eight innings allowing only one run, while Mason Montgomery sealed the victory in the ninth inning. The game stood out for its pace, being completed in just two hours and two minutes, marking the shortest duration record for the team this season.
The Pittsburgh organization has reported that Cruz’s reinstatement will be managed gradually, alternating his defensive responsibilities in center field with turns as a designated hitter, seeking to preserve his physical health while he regains his usual competitive rhythm.
