Tragedy in San Juan: 11-year-old minor drowns in condominium pool
A tragic event has left a family of visitors in Puerto Rico in mourning. An 11-year-old minor, who resided in the state of New York, lost his life after drowning in the pool of an apartment complex located in the tourist area of Condado, in San Juan.
Incident details
According to the official report issued by local authorities, the incident occurred during the afternoon of last Thursday. The 9-1-1 Emergency System received an alert call around 6:13 in the afternoon, reporting an emergency situation at the Del Mar Condominium, located on the busy Ashford Avenue.
According to information gathered by Alofoke Deportes, the minor was enjoying a vacation with his family members. The tragedy unfolded when the child’s mother noticed that he was submerged in the deep end of the pool.
After being rescued from the water by his loved ones, the minor was rushed to a nearby hospital emergency room. Unfortunately, upon arrival, the doctor on duty certified the absence of vital signs.
Ongoing research
The authorities have initiated the corresponding procedures to clarify the exact circumstances of this unfortunate accident. The investigation is being led by:
- Agent Erika Báez, belonging to the Homicide Division of the San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps.
- Prosecutor José Villamarzo, who is in charge of the legal investigation of the case.
This event has caused great consternation in the Condado tourist community, as investigators continue to gather testimonies to complete the case file.
