Dominican mother cries out for help to reunite with her daughter after nine years of separation
A Dominican mother, identified as Yudelka Brito, has made an urgent appeal to authorities in both the Dominican Republic and Spain to restore communication with her minor daughter. According to Brito’s testimony, she has had no contact for nine years with the girl, who currently resides in Spanish territory under the custody of a maternal aunt.
The mother recounted that the estrangement began after a family reunification process. Brito traveled to Spain with her two daughters, but was later forced to return to the Dominican Republic temporarily to attend to a family situation involving her other daughter, leaving the youngest in the care of her relative.
I haven’t spoken to her in nine years, nor do I know anything about her. I have fought so hard and spent a lot of money and I haven’t been able to resolve my case. I ask you to help me, please.

Legal procedures without results
Brito has presented various documents that support his attempts to regain contact with the minor. Among the files, the following stand out:
- An official letter issued on June 12, 2023, by the Children and Adolescents Prosecutor’s Office of Monseñor Nouel, requesting the summons of Elizabeth Ramos Mercedes, the minor’s aunt, to appear before the authorities.
- An appeal filed with the Consulate General of Spain in Santo Domingo following the denial of a visa application, with which Brito intended to travel to retrieve her daughter.
- A notarial deed dated 2017 in Navarre, Spain, which is part of the case background.
The mother maintains that, despite the summons sent by the Prosecutor’s Office, the relative who has custody of the minor has not responded to the calls nor allowed the re-establishment of the bond. Likewise, Brito pointed out that her financial limitations have been a significant obstacle to hiring constant legal assistance to follow up on the process in both nations.
Given this situation, Yudelka Brito insists that the competent authorities must intervene to determine the legal avenues that allow for knowing the minor’s current status and guaranteeing her right to be reunited with her. So far, no statement has been obtained from the relative in question regarding the circumstances of this prolonged separation.
