Edwin Encarnación is inducted into the La Romana Sports Hall of Fame
The stellar former Major League Baseball player, Edwin Encarnación, was immortalized in the La Romana Sports Hall of Fame, becoming one of the 12 new members of the Class of 2026. During the solemn ceremony, the slugger was represented by his mother, Mireya Rivera, who received the distinction on his behalf.
Encarnación’s exaltation comes during a period marked by complex personal situations, following the announcement of his divorce proceedings from communicator Karen Yapoort and the course of a judicial process derived from a physical altercation that occurred in the same province. Despite these events, the Hall of Fame Committee highlighted his impeccable career as one of the most influential athletes born in La Romana with international projection.
A legendary career in the Major Leagues
Born on January 7, 1983, Edwin Encarnación grew up under the sporting legacy of his father, Elpidio Encarnación, who also holds a place in the local hall of fame. From his beginnings, the former baseball player demonstrated a discipline that led him to establish himself as a power figure in professional baseball.
His time in the Major Leagues spanned 16 seasons, leaving an indelible mark, mainly during his time with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Indians. Among his most notable statistics are:
