Malespín Constructora expands its international reach with megaproject in Panama
The Dominican company Malespín Constructora has reached a milestone in its history by being selected as the entity responsible for the civil works of the new urban cable car in San Miguelito, Panama. This project, classified as one of the most significant mobility works in the Central American nation, represents the firm’s first foray into the execution of large-scale public infrastructure outside the Dominican Republic.
The construction company joins the work awarded by the Panama Metro to the Austrian firm Doppelmayr, a global leader in cable transport solutions. With a total investment of around 255 million dollars, the local company’s participation focuses on the development of the fundamental components of the civil works, including the foundations, the stations, and the installation of the support towers.
Technical details and scope of the system
The new cable car system will feature a route of approximately 6.6 kilometers and is designed to optimize passenger flow in one of the most densely populated areas of Panama. The infrastructure will include a total of 46 support towers and six strategic stations:
- Balboa
- Cincuentenario
- Samaria
- Mano de Piedra
- Valle de Urracá
- Torrijos Carter
One of the key points of the design is its direct integration with Line 2 of the Panama Metro, specifically at the Cincuentenario station. This connection will allow thousands of citizens of San Miguelito to have a more efficient and faster transportation alternative for their daily commutes.
Taking on the civil works for a cable car of this scale, hand-in-hand with Doppelmayr, confirms the capacity of Dominican engineering to compete in projects of regional scope. For us, it is also a deliberate step toward the diversification of our portfolio and our markets.
