Leonardo Aguilera completes his first year at the helm of Banreservas with a focus on national development
Dr. Leonardo Aguilera celebrates his first anniversary as Executive President of Banco de Reservas, a period in which he has consolidated the institution as the key financial engine for the economic growth of the Dominican Republic. Since his appointment in August 2025, his management has been characterized by decisive support for the productive sectors, construction, the agricultural sector, and the strengthening of national infrastructure.
Following the economic policy guidelines of President Luis Abinader, the Aguilera administration has prioritized efficiency and transparency, achieving disbursements exceeding RD$282,430.2 million between August 2025 and July 2026. Of this total, nearly 48% was allocated directly to productive sectors, benefiting more than 34,000 clients including MSMEs, businesses, and manufacturing companies.
This first year has been a period of intense work, aimed at ensuring that credit reaches where it needs to go: to families, producers, small and medium-sized enterprises, builders, entrepreneurs, and the sectors that drive the country’s development.

Boosting SMEs and the Dominican countryside
Support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises has been a fundamental pillar. Through the Banreservas SME Expo 2026, the entity channeled more than RD$17.2 billion, addressing thousands of requests seeking to modernize and expand the local business fabric. Likewise, the bank has reinforced financial inclusion through initiatives such as the Women SME Summit, allocating specific funds for female entrepreneurship.
In the agricultural sector, the commitment has translated into an investment of RD$12 billion for the 2026-2027 Rice Pledging Program, guaranteeing a preferential rate of 7% to protect food security and the livelihoods of rural families.
Housing and expansion abroad
- Happy Family Plan: Full financing for housing projects such as the San José residential complex in Santo Domingo Norte.
- Connection with the diaspora: Resounding success at real estate fairs in New York, Lawrence, and Madrid, facilitating Dominicans living abroad to invest in their homeland.
Economic revitalization and strategic projects
The automotive sector experienced a record year with Expomóvil, which recorded financing exceeding RD$8.653 billion. In parallel, Banreservas has committed to large-scale infrastructure, highlighting financial support for energy projects such as the Manzanillo Power Land thermoelectric plant, with an investment of US$345 million.
At the conclusion of this first year, Aguilera’s management reaffirms Banreservas’ commitment to continue being the strategic partner that drives the country’s prosperity, paving the way toward the entity’s 85th anniversary with a vision of modernity and closeness to all sectors of Dominican society.
