Lechetón 20-30 returns: A solidarity initiative for Dominican nutrition

The Activo 20-30 Club of Santo Domingo, in a strategic alliance with Tetra Pak, Dominican Scouts, and various supermarket chains, has officially launched the 16th edition of the Lechetón Activo 20-30. This social responsibility project has the primary objective of collecting milk to strengthen the physical and cognitive development of children, adolescents, and the elderly in vulnerable situations.

The event, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), seeks to surpass the goal of 46,000 liters of milk in Tetra Pak cartons.

How to collaborate in the great national collection?

The massive collection will take place during the weekend of September 26th and 27th. Citizens interested in contributing to this cause will be able to purchase milk in Tetra Pak cartons and deliver it directly to the volunteers of the Activo 20-30 Club, who will be duly identified at the collection points distributed in various commercial establishments across the country, including:

  • La Sirena: Multicentro Churchill, Multiplaza La Romana, Puerto Plata, Nagua, Moca, Bonao, La Vega, El Embrujo (Santiago), Baní and Sirena Market in Las Terrenas.
  • Jumbo: Luperón, La Romana, San Pedro, Bávaro, Moca, La Vega and Ágora Santiago Center.
  • Nacional: Metro Plaza and Paseo Norte (Santiago).
  • MercaJumbo: Nagua.

This initiative demonstrates how community solidarity can transform lives. Every liter of milk donated represents a gesture of love, nutrition, and commitment to the healthy growth of our children and senior citizens.

Karla Merejo, National Coordinator of Lechetón Activo 20-30.

Social impact and reach of the event

The funds raised will allow for the provision of a daily glass of milk for approximately three months to various social assistance institutions. Among the beneficiary entities are Aldeas Infantiles SOS, Hogar Doña Chucha, the Hogar de Ancianos Inspiración Divina, the Escuela Especial de Bonao, and Fundaremar, among other organizations dedicated to the care of vulnerable populations.

Since the beginning of this collaboration in 2011, Lechetón has managed to collect more than 600,000 liters of milk. Bruno Basile, Communications leader for Tetra Pak in Central America and the Caribbean, highlighted that the packaging technology used guarantees the freshness and nutritional value of the product without the need for refrigeration, facilitating its distribution in the communities that need it most.
