Josefa Castillo is appointed as the new consul general in Miami

Within the framework of the government changes made this August 16, 2026, President Luis Abinader has made official the appointment of Josefa Aquilina Castillo Rodríguez as the new Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Miami, United States.

This move is part of a series of strategic adjustments implemented by the Executive Branch in various institutions and diplomatic representations, coinciding with the beginning of this new management period.

A consolidated career in public administration

Castillo, who until now led the National Institute for Comprehensive Early Childhood Care (INAIPI), possesses extensive experience in the public and political spheres. Her resume includes high-level positions within the structure of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM):

  • INAIP’s address.
  • Superintendency of Insurance (since 2020).
  • Member of the National Council of the Magistracy (2016-2020 period).

The official, a native of Boca Chica, is a graduate of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) with a degree in Psychology. Her academic background is complemented by postgraduate degrees and master’s degrees specializing in administration, public policy, administrative law, and education, skills that she will put at the service of the Dominican community in Miami, one of the most significant locations for the diaspora abroad.

Castillo’s appointment responds to the president’s vision of renewing personnel in the foreign service to strengthen ties and support for Dominicans in U.S. territory.

For the moment, the announcement has been confirmed by the official bodies of the Executive Branch. The publication of the corresponding decree is expected, which will detail the specifics of its transition from INAIPI and will define who will assume the leadership of said institution in its place.
