Jonatan Familia harshly questions Melanio Paredes over statements regarding Gonzalo Castillo
Municipal affairs specialist Jonatan Familia expressed firm rejection of the recent statements by political leader Melanio Paredes, who suggested that former presidential candidate Gonzalo Castillo possesses greater political weight than the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) itself.
During his participation in the radio show Politikal, Familia described the former Minister of Education’s words as an exercise lacking logic and an evident act of political servility. The communicator emphasized that elevating an individual’s figure above an institution with the trajectory of the PLD is a direct disrespect to its membership and its organic structure.
The importance of party structure
Familia questioned the validity of comparing an aspirant with an organization that has been a protagonist in the administration of the State for much of the last few decades. In his analysis, the communicator stressed that, in the electoral arena, the party brand is the most valuable asset.
How do you say that a pre-candidate is above an organization like the PLD, an organization with a nationwide structure, which has governed this country for a large part of the last few years?

The analyst argued that, regardless of the popularity or “superstar” status a politician may achieve, any project lacks a future without a solid platform and a national structure to support its proposal.
Limited exceptions
To conclude his intervention, Familia clarified that, within the purple organization, very few names could generate a debate over whether their personal weight exceeds that of the party brand. In this regard, he mentioned former President Danilo Medina as the only historical figure whose influence could be subject to study in this sense, underlining that, outside of exceptional cases, the party structure always prevails over individual aspirations.
