Inverotel warns about the impact of sargassum and proposes a strategic alliance with the Dominican tourism sector
The International Association of Hotel Investors (Inverotel) has expressed its deep concern regarding the increasing arrival of sargassum on the coasts of the Dominican Republic. The entity, which brings together major hotel chains, has extended a formal proposal to the Ministry of Tourism to collaborate closely in mitigating this environmental phenomenon that threatens the sector’s competitiveness.
Through an official communication sent to Minister David Collado from its headquarters in Spain, the organization underscored the urgency of addressing this issue before it escalates to critical levels. Inverotel bases its concern on the precedent observed in other Caribbean destinations, such as the Riviera Maya in Mexico, where the proliferation of these algae has transformed the coastal ecosystem and negatively impacted the perception of international visitors.
A call to joint action
The association warns that the massive accumulation of sargassum not only alters the tourist experience but also puts the sustainability and the country brand image of the Dominican Republic at risk. Given this scenario, Inverotel has requested information regarding the Government’s current plans for managing this challenge.
