Weather forecast: Indomet warns of downpours and hot temperatures in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued its official report for this Thursday, noting the start of the day characterized by mostly sunny skies and little cloud cover across much of the national territory. However, meteorological conditions will experience significant changes by the afternoon.
According to the agency, the combination of moisture transported by the easterly wind, local effects, and daytime heating will cause moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts. These rains will mainly affect the provinces of La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, Greater Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, and Monseñor Nouel.
Current alerts for possible flooding
Given the soil saturation and rainfall projections, the National Forecasting Center maintains active weather alerts for Greater Santo Domingo and the northern area of San Cristóbal. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant for possible urban flooding, as well as the rising of streams and creeks.
Humidity and heat conditions will remain the main focus for the rest of the day, so citizens are advised to take the necessary preventive measures to avoid heatstroke.
Alofoke DeportesRecommendations for extreme heat
Indomet warns that temperatures will remain high, with maximums ranging between 33 °C and 35 °C, creating an oppressive heat index. To mitigate the effects of this heat, the following recommendations are offered:

- Wear light, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
- Avoid direct sun exposure during the critical hours of 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Prioritize the care of children, the elderly, and pregnant women by keeping them in cool and ventilated places.
For Greater Santo Domingo, the day is expected to pass with sun and scattered clouds during the morning, giving way to an afternoon with increasing cloudiness, moderate downpours, and isolated electrical activity.
