Guido Gómez Mazara defends Santiago Matías’ right to run for president
The president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), Guido Gómez Mazara, recently spoke out about the foray of Santiago Matías, popularly known as Alofoke, into the national political scene through his political project Dominicanos Primero.
During an interview granted to communicator José Peguero, Gómez Mazara was emphatic in pointing out that any citizen, including Matías, possesses the legitimate right to present their presidential aspirations. According to the official, under no circumstances should emerging figures be obstructed or prevented from seeking spaces for participation in the country’s democratic life.
No one can hinder him, nor obstruct the legitimate right he has to aspire.

The challenges of Dominican politics
Despite supporting Matías’s constitutional right, Gómez Mazara issued a warning about the complexity involved in the presidential race. The political leader stressed that reaching the highest office of the State is a challenge of great proportions, clarifying that the electoral process is not as simple as public opinion tends to perceive.
Likewise, the head of Indotel analyzed the current landscape of traditional parties, pointing out several key points regarding the behavior of the electorate:
- Citizen dissatisfaction with traditional political structures does not automatically guarantee massive electoral support for emerging candidates.
- Building a solid party structure requires a strategy that transcends digital popularity.
- National politics demands a deep understanding of electoral mechanisms to convert popular support into hard, tangible votes.
These statements come at a time of great anticipation, as Santiago Matías continues to advance in the formalization of his party structure and consolidate his political proposal under the name Dominicanos Primero, which has generated various debates in the public sphere, including proposals such as mandatory military service for high school students.
