Tragedy in Brazil: 23 dead after head-on collision in the state of Paraná
A devastating tragedy mourned the state of Paraná, in Brazil, this Wednesday, after a road accident left a toll of 23 people dead and five injured. The event occurred during the early morning, around 3:30 a.m., at kilometer 209 of the BR-373 highway, between the municipalities of Imbituva and Ipiranga.
According to preliminary reports from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the incident occurred when a truck crossed into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a minibus from the Imbituva Health Department. This vehicle was responsible for transporting patients and their companions to hospitals in the Curitiba Metropolitan Area.
Impact details and rescue efforts
The force of the crash was devastating. Among the fatalities are 21 adults, two minors, and the truck driver. The minibus was practically destroyed, hindering the efforts of emergency teams, which included firefighters, SAMU personnel, the Scientific Police, and workers from the Via Araucária concessionaire.
The authorities have initiated a specialized protocol for the identification of the bodies, while the five survivors were transported to healthcare centers in Ponta Grossa, some of them in critical condition.
