Guido Gómez Mazara receives a delegation of Dominican CUNY students on a cultural visit
The president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), Guido Gómez Mazara, led an educational and cultural day with a group of young Dominicans pursuing higher education at various institutions of the City University of New York (CUNY). The main objective of the meeting was to strengthen the ties between the student diaspora and their national roots.
During August 7th and 8th, students from institutions such as Hunter College, Baruch College, Lehman College, Hostos Community College, and City College toured iconic landmarks of the Dominican capital. The agenda included a visit to the Museum of Telecommunications, where they explored the country’s technological evolution, as well as a historical tour of the Colonial Zone and the Columbus Lighthouse, guided by professor Daniel Morfa.
It is important to us that young Dominicans studying abroad maintain a permanent bond with their country. This experience allows them to learn about our history, our culture, and our roots firsthand, while at the same time strengthening the connection with a nation that is also part of their identity.

Strengthening Dominican identity
The delegation was led by Rosivel García, president of the Dominican Students Association of The City College of New York (CCNY), who thanked Indotel for the initiative. García highlighted the relevance of this outreach for young people, many of whom are preparing in key areas such as economics, finance, biology, nursing, and STEM programs.
Lehman College Political Science professor, Dr. Fernando Aquino, who accompanied the group, highlighted the positive impact of this experience. According to Aquino, these types of exchanges are fundamental to keeping the connection of the student community abroad alive with the reality and history of the Dominican Republic.
The visit also included the participation of Hilda Robinson, representing the students’ parents, adding a family component to the meeting. With this series of activities, Indotel reaffirms its commitment to integrating new generations of Dominicans abroad with national development and their cultural heritage.
