FUNGLODE presents its ambitious cultural and cinematographic agenda until 2028
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE), under the leadership of former President Leonel Fernández, has unveiled a robust institutional and cultural roadmap that will span from the current year until January 2028. The announcement was made during a special meeting with media representatives at its headquarters, where the entity’s commitment to innovation, education, and the promotion of creative industries was reaffirmed.
Culture is one of the fundamental pillars for the development of nations. At FUNGLODE, we will continue to create spaces for reflection, training, and the exchange of ideas on the topics that define our contemporaneity.

International projection and strengthening of Dominican cinema
The film industry occupies a leading place in the new agenda. Through the Dominican Film Showcase, the institution will continue to promote local talent on international stages. Among the upcoming highlights are:
- September 17: Presentation of “Tal palo, tal astilla” in Miami.
- September 24: Screening of “Milly, reina del merengue” at Symphony Space in New York.
- Expansion: Starting in 2027, the city of Philadelphia will join the international screening circuit.
- Global Film Festival: The 19th edition of the FCGSD is scheduled from January 28 to February 3, 2027, culminating with the celebration of its 20th anniversary in January 2028.
In addition, the Dominican Film Professionals Abroad meeting will be promoted to connect Dominican filmmakers in the United States, fostering dialogue on the application of Law 108-10 and the future of the audiovisual industry.
Academic and editorial agenda
FUNGLODE will maintain its focus on high-level analysis through the Casa de Campo Global Forum and meetings in Santiago de los Caballeros, which address critical topics such as artificial intelligence, economics, health, and sustainable development. Regarding its editorial work, the institution will boost Revista Global and the development of new documentary projects:
- Continuity of the Dominican Cultural Dictionary.
- Creation of the new Cinematographic Dictionary of the Dominican Republic, led by researcher Félix Manuel Lora.
- Relaunch of the FUNGLODE Cineforums as spaces for specialized training.
The event featured the participation of the directors of the foundation’s various areas, who detailed plans to strengthen the FUNGLODE Awards, the Radio FUNGLODE programming, and the academic initiatives of IGLOBAL. With this vision, the institution positions itself as a key benchmark in the thought and cultural projection of the Dominican Republic to the world.
