A legendary trajectory
Born in São Paulo, Massoni began his brilliant career at Palmeiras, quickly standing out for his playmaking ability and his skill in driving to the basket. His impact was immediate, becoming a benchmark of the golden age of South American basketball.
Among his greatest sporting achievements are:
- World Champion in Rio de Janeiro 1963.
- Double Olympic medalist: bronze in Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964.
- World Cup medalist: silver in 1970 and bronze in 1967.
- Success in Pan American Games: gold in Cali 1971, silver in São Paulo 1963 and bronze in Chicago 1959.
Legacy beyond the courts
After his time at iconic clubs such as Sírio, Portuguesa, and São Caetano, where he concluded his professional career, ‘Mosquito’ turned his life toward academic training. He earned a degree in Physical Education, dedicating his years after retirement to teaching and training new prospects.
His last major public appearance took place in 2023, during a special gala organized by the CBB to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historic 1963 world title. At that gathering, Massoni was honored by his peers and family, reaffirming the privileged place he holds in the history of Brazilian sports.
