Fedom announces the 6th U6 National Championship dedicated to Welington Castillo
The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) kicked off its development tournament calendar for the 2026 season, confirming the celebration of the “6th National U6 Championship Frank Camilo Category”. In this edition, the tournament pays a well-deserved tribute to the outstanding former Major League player and current member of the Dominican team’s coaching staff, Welington Castillo.
The competition, designed to foster talent in 5 and 6-year-old children, will take place this Sunday, August 23rd, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. Activities are scheduled to begin at 9:00 in the morning, with the “Héctor Tito Pereyra” Field Number 3 being the main stage for this sporting event.
Welington Castillo is an icon for the Dominican Republic; he is one of those people who serves as an example to follow for children, young people, and also for adults. On and off the field, he has proven to be a leader who has very high values to exhibit for everyone, which is why the Fedom Executive Committee unanimously decided to dedicate this U6 National Championship to such a great professional and excellent human being as Welington Castillo.

A national participation record
The tournament marks a milestone for the organization, as it will feature the participation of 528 children distributed across 33 teams from various regions of the country. This level of turnout reflects the success of the development categories (U6, U8, and U10) promoted by Fedom to popularize the practice of baseball from childhood.
Among the teams that will seek the title, the current champions from La Vega stand out, in addition to delegations from Cotuí, the National District, Puerto Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago, San Cristóbal, La Romana, among other provinces and local leagues that are joining this great event.

The realization of this national championship has the fundamental support of institutions committed to sports, such as the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), the State Economic Dining Halls, and the Panorama Media Group, entities that year after year collaborate so that children’s baseball continues to grow throughout the national territory.
