Intense heat and afternoon downpours will mark this Wednesday in the DR

The Dominican territory will experience an environment characterized by intense heat and marked atmospheric instability this Wednesday. According to meteorological reports from Alofoke Deportes, conditions will favor the occurrence of downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts, especially during the afternoon.

From early hours, the combination of humidity and high temperatures will dominate the landscape, with skies of variable cloudiness. However, daytime heating will act as a trigger for the development of clouds with great vertical growth, concentrating rainy activity in various provinces in the interior of the country.

Areas under precipitation alert

The rains, which could occur in a moderate to heavy manner in localized spots, will mainly affect the following regions:

  • North and Cibao Region: Santiago, Duarte, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel and Constanza.
  • South Region: San Cristóbal, Azua, San Juan and Barahona.
  • East Region: San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana and La Altagracia.

It is important to highlight that, due to the nature of these phenomena, rainfall will not be uniform, so the intensity and duration will vary between communities within the same province.

Extreme temperatures: the main challenge

Maximum temperatures will range between 32 and 37 degrees Celsius, with an even higher heat index due to high humidity. San Juan is shaping up to be one of the areas with the highest temperature records in the country.

Given this scenario, Alofoke Deportes reminds the public to follow preventive recommendations to avoid heat stroke or dehydration:

  • Consume water consistently throughout the day.
  • Wear light clothing and light colors.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, especially between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Pay special attention to children, older adults, and outdoor workers.

Situation on the north coast

Unlike the rest of the country, the provinces of Puerto Plata and Monte Cristi will maintain mostly clear skies for much of the day. However, the possibility of atmospheric development generating occasional cloudiness towards the afternoon cannot be ruled out. Despite the lower probability of rain, the hot environment will persist in these areas.

Security recommendations

During the occurrence of thunderstorms and wind gusts, the population is urged to seek shelter in safe places, avoiding being near trees, metal structures, utility poles, or open spaces. Likewise, drivers are requested to drive with caution because slippery pavement and reduced visibility can increase the risk of traffic accidents.
