Escalation of violence in Ukraine leaves more than 60 dead in the last few hours
Tension in Ukrainian territory has reached critical levels following a recent wave of Russian attacks that has claimed the lives of more than 60 people since last Wednesday. Local authorities have warned that the death toll could continue to rise as rescue and debris removal efforts progress in the affected areas.
Tragedy in Kramatorsk
The most devastating incident occurred this Thursday in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. A guided aerial bomb struck a bus stop directly, claiming the lives of at least 30 people. The attack also left 18 injured and caused two minibuses that were at the scene to catch fire.
There was no military target at the attacked site, which qualifies this act as a purely terrorist action against the civilian population.
Kramatorsk City Council
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared images of the event, lamenting that the magnitude of the explosion prevented the immediate identification of several deceased individuals.
Impact in Priluki and other regions
Previously, the city of Priluki, in northern Ukraine, was the scene of another lethal attack during the early hours of Wednesday. A cruise missile completely destroyed a residential building, leaving 22 people dead, including five children, three of whom were just one year old. Zelensky visited the affected area along with international representatives to oversee the situation and reiterate his call to strengthen the country’s air defense.
A rising human toll
- More than a dozen additional deaths in Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Oleksandria, and Bilenke.
- 55% increase in civilian casualties during the first eight months of 2026 compared to 2025, according to data from international organizations.
- Russia has intensified operations in the Ukrainian rear since the beginning of summer.
Faced with this situation, the Ukrainian government has reaffirmed its intention to respond to these aggressions and has insisted to its allies on the need to impose stricter sanctions against Russia, seeking to curb an offensive that continues to hit the civilian population hard in various regions of the country.
