Weather forecast: Intense heat and isolated downpours for this Sunday in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) has issued its official report for this Sunday, anticipating a day marked by hot conditions and a progressive increase in cloudiness as the day progresses. While the early morning hours will remain with clear skies and little rain, the outlook will change significantly during the afternoon.
According to the agency, the combination of a warm wind current coming from the east/southeast, added to the effects of daytime heating, will favor the formation of downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts. These meteorological conditions will have a greater impact on specific regions of the national territory.
Affected areas and recommendations
Precipitation, which could reach moderate to heavy intensity in local spots, will be concentrated mainly in the following areas:
- Northwestern provinces.
- The Cibao Valley.
- The Central Mountain Range.
- Border areas.
In Greater Santo Domingo, including the National District and the North, West, and East zones, scattered clouds will predominate during the morning. However, the presence of thunderstorms and isolated showers in the North and West municipalities during the afternoon cannot be ruled out. For the rest of the country, rainfall activity is expected to gradually decrease as night falls.
Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., due to the high heat index that will be recorded across much of the country.
