European Parliament delegation evaluates border dynamics in Dajabón
A delegation from the European Parliament visited the Dajabón border area with the aim of closely analyzing the operation of the binational crossing and the security measures implemented by the Dominican Republic. During the tour, the parliamentarians examined the perimeter fence, the bridge that connects to Juana Méndez, and the operations of the Border Market, receiving technical details from local authorities.
The delegation was received by high-ranking military officials and government representatives, including Major General Enrique Armando Aguilera Trujillo, director of CESFRONT, General Luis Coronado, supervisor of the border fence, as well as Deputy Tony Bengoa and representatives of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM).
Focus on cooperation and regional stability
Raúl Fuentes, the European Union ambassador to the country, emphasized that this visit seeks to offer European legislators a clear view of the border reality. Fuentes highlighted that the European Union maintains a firm commitment to the stabilization of Haiti and the strengthening of services that boost binational trade.
European cooperation efforts seek to contribute to ensuring that this commercial exchange advances towards higher levels of formalization and generates benefits for the populations on both sides of the border.

Perspective on the Haitian crisis
José Cepeda, president of the parliamentary delegation, emphasized that the crisis in Haiti transcends Dominican borders, becoming a challenge for the international community. Cepeda positively valued the migration control and security strategies implemented by the Dominican Republic, describing them as a model that seeks to balance national regulations with respect for human rights.
International call to action
For his part, Deputy Tony Bengoa took advantage of the occasion to reiterate the importance of greater global collaboration, in line with the proposals made by President Luis Abinader before the United Nations. The legislator insisted on the urgency of:
- Promote the effective disarmament of armed gangs in Haiti.
- Achieve the necessary pacification for the return to institutional order.
- Foster the holding of transparent electoral processes.
- Continue investment in economic and social development projects for border communities.
This visit allowed the European representatives to verify the complexity of the area, where security challenges, migratory dynamics, and an active commercial exchange that is vital to the regional economy converge daily.
