Europe on alert: Forest fires cause mass evacuations and dozens of injuries
The European continent faces a critical day this Friday due to a series of forest fires that have devastated various regions, forcing thousands of residents and tourists to abandon their homes and lodging places. The most alarming situation is recorded in Croatia, where authorities have reported a worrying toll of casualties and significant structural damage.
Crisis in Croatia: A bleak outlook
In Croatian territory, the fire reached critical residential areas, leaving a toll of at least 36 people injured, ten of whom are in serious condition. The magnitude of the disaster has been classified by relief agencies as an unprecedented event in the country’s recent history.
We are facing one of the worst fires in the history of Croatia. The flames have consumed between 900 and 1,000 hectares of land, exceeding our immediate response capacity in the affected areas.

Due to the rapid spread of the flames, more than 2,000 people, including tourists enjoying the season, have had to be evacuated in an emergency to safeguard their lives while firefighting brigades struggle to contain the fire’s advance toward densely populated areas.

The emergency is not limited to the Croatian coast. Countries such as France and Germany have also activated their security protocols, ordering preventive evacuations in areas where active hotspots pose an imminent threat to the civilian population and local infrastructure.
