Estrellas Orientales strengthen their roster with eight strategic signings
The Estrellas Orientales have taken a firm step in building their roster for the upcoming Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) season. After concluding their participation in the recent Rookie Draft, where they selected nine prospects, the San Pedro de Macorís-based team announced the signing of eight veteran players as free agents.
This move seeks to provide the green team with greater depth and competitive experience, integrating pieces that already know the rigor of the Dominican winter ball and that have experience in international circuits.
Proven talent for the infield and catching
The organization added catcher Deivi Grullón, a 30-year-old veteran with a career in LIDOM wearing the colors of the Águilas, Leones, and Gigantes. Grullón, who also has Major League experience with Philadelphia and Boston, is coming off an outstanding performance in the Mexican League, where he recorded a .323 batting average with 15 runs batted in.
Alongside him, infielder Deivi Muñoz joins the team. At 25 years old, Muñoz arrives following an outstanding campaign in the Cibao Summer League with the Granjeros de Moca, where he established himself as one of the circuit’s best hitters by averaging .388, demonstrating a remarkable ability to get on base.
The versatility and experience of these new members are fundamental to maintaining the competitive level that characterizes the Estrellas Orientales in every LIDOM tournament.
Depth in the pitching staff
The bulk of the signings focused on reinforcing the pitching staff, incorporating six arms with diverse profiles:
- Edwin Núñez: Law degree with recent experience in Double-A with the St. Louis organization.
- Franklin Kilomé: 31-year-old pitcher with a Major League background and mastery of the local league.
- Esmerlin Vinicio: 23-year-old lefty who stood out in the San Francisco farm system with a 7-0 record and a 3.41 ERA.
- Geison Urbáez: Right-handed arm that provides versatility by being able to perform as both a reliever and a starter.
- Yeuris Jiménez: Young right-hander who gained experience in Double-A and High-A this year.
- Jhon Henríquez: Stood out in the Cibao Summer League, where he shared the ERA lead with a 1.23 mark.
With these additions, Alofoke Deportes confirms that the eastern team closes a key stage of its preseason, combining the young talent obtained in the rookie draft with the experience necessary to face the challenges of the winter league.
