Education kicks off the 2026-2027 school year with a focus on educational quality
The Dominican educational system has officially launched the 2026-2027 school year. With a national deployment mobilizing more than two million students, the authorities of the Ministry of Education assure that the country is prepared to face this new academic challenge with optimism and strategic planning.
Ayacx Mercedes Contreras, Vice Minister of Planning at the Ministry of Education, led the opening ceremony held at the Espejo La Milagrosa Primary School, located in Santo Domingo East. During his speech, the official highlighted that the institution is in optimal condition to receive students following an exhaustive preparation process.
All preparations have been made in advance. We began the work in February and all pedagogical, enrollment, infrastructure, and teacher preparation situations are ready.

Priorities for the new academic year
The Ministry of Education has defined a clear roadmap for this year, focusing its efforts on fundamental pillars that seek to transform the classroom experience:
- Substantial improvement in the quality and relevance of learning.
- Guarantee of an appropriate and safe school climate for the integral development of children and adolescents.
- Optimization of pedagogical resources and school infrastructure.
- Continuous monitoring of teacher training.
A call for family integration
Beyond institutional logistics, Vice Minister Mercedes Contreras emphasized the importance of the family’s role in the success of the educational process. The official urged fathers, mothers, and guardians to maintain active participation from the first day of classes, avoiding delays in the integration of students into their educational centers.
