Dominican talent shines in the VI Rubén Darío Literary Contest

The Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) recently celebrated the literary talent of the Dominican Republic by awarding two national writers in the sixth edition of the Rubén Darío Poetry and Prose Contest. This prestigious international competition has the primary objective of fostering literary creation and strengthening the bonds of cultural integration between the countries of Central America and the Dominican nation.

During the ceremony, organized by the regional body’s Commission on Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, writers Sandra Irola Berroa Santana and Juan Pablo Fernández Beltré were distinguished with second and third place, respectively. Both authors received official certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding participation.

A meeting of regional letters

The competition, which this year awarded Guatemalan César Manrique De León Galindo with first place, evaluated various unpublished poetic compositions and video declamation works. The event stood out for the high quality of the works presented, reaffirming the role of literature as an essential vehicle for the cultural identity of peoples.

Literature is the living expression of our identity and a fundamental bridge that unites us as a region, allowing the voices of our writers to transcend borders.

  • Deputy Erges Rubén Jiménez Bichara, Secretary of said commission.
  • Deputy Lourdes de Jesús, liaison with the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic.
