Speeding, possible cause of serious accident on Santiago’s Estrella Sadhalá Avenue
The General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT) has indicated that inadequate speed was likely the determining factor in the spectacular accident recorded early this Thursday on Estrella Sadhalá Avenue, in Santiago. The incident left four people injured and caused significant damage to the area’s electrical infrastructure.
Frederic Peralta Naranjo, Northern regional director of DIGESETT, indicated that, although the technical expert reports have not yet yielded an exact figure regarding the speed of the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV involved, the evidence found at the scene suggests that the vehicle was not traveling in a prudent manner.
The violence of the impact and the driver’s loss of control are clear elements that lead us to determine that speed was a determining factor in this accident.

Details of the incident and status of those affected
- The accident occurred at approximately 4:10 in the morning.
- The vehicle lost control and collided with two utility poles, causing explosions and fires in cables and transformers.
- The four occupants of the vehicle suffered serious injuries, including fractures that require surgical intervention.
- The injured were rushed to the José María Cabral y Báez Regional University Hospital.
Following the impact, a high-risk situation was generated on the busy road, which forced the authorities to intervene from the early hours of the morning. DIGESETT agents arrived at the scene around 6:50 a.m. to manage the flow of traffic and secure the area while emergency crews worked on removing debris and repairing the damaged electrical connections.
Traffic on Estrella Sadhalá Avenue remained regulated for several hours until the safety of the area was guaranteed. Currently, the authorities are keeping the investigation open to clarify with total precision the exact circumstances that triggered this unfortunate event.
