Hotel sector demands specialized personnel in culinary arts and maintenance
The Director General of the National Institute for Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP), Maira Margarita Morla Pineda, reported that the country’s hotel industry presents a growing need for highly trained personnel, with a particular focus on the areas of cooking and culinary arts.
During her participation in the Asonahores Trade Expo, the official highlighted the relevance of this demand after hearing businessman Frank Elías Rainieri explain the shortage of professional chefs within the tourism sector, while simultaneously emphasizing the fundamental role the institution plays in preparing these talents.

Diversification in the demand for technicians
Beyond gastronomy, Morla Pineda stressed that the tourism labor market requires technicians specialized in various operational disciplines that are essential for the functioning of hotel complexes. Among the areas in highest demand are:
- Swimming pool maintenance.
- General hotel maintenance.
- Industrial electricity.
- Plumbing and pipefitting.
INFOTEP maintains a proactive approach to meet these needs through its satellite offices, which coordinate training services for both established companies and unemployed citizens seeking to acquire the necessary skills to successfully enter the job market.
Finally, the director highlighted that the constant demand for the institute’s graduates by the business sector represents a significant window of opportunity for those who wish to join the Dominican workforce, consolidating INFOTEP as a strategic pillar in the country’s economic and tourism development.
