Dominican U15 team accelerates its preparation for the World Cup in Mexico
With a clear focus on sports excellence, the Dominican U15 baseball team is intensifying its training ahead of the upcoming World Cup. The tournament, which will bring together the best youth talent in the world, will take place from September 25 to October 4 in the Mexican cities of Mérida and Cancún.
Under the strategic direction of former Major League catcher Welington Castillo, the 20-player team is working hard on optimizing their physical, offensive, and defensive skills, seeking to consolidate a solid game system before their departure to Aztec lands.
I feel very grateful to God for the opportunity and to the Federation for entrusting me with the responsibility of being the manager in this World Cup. All those boys want to play; they tell me they can perform in the infield, in the outfield, or wherever they are needed. That versatility is a great competitive advantage.

A rigorous selection process
The formation of this roster was the result of an extensive period of technical evaluation, where talents from the country’s main academies and development programs were observed. The coaching staff prioritized not only athletic skills and performance on the mound, but also the discipline and adaptability of each prospect to integrate into a cohesive group.

For Castillo, his career in Major League Baseball represents a fundamental asset to guide these young players. The strategist seeks to transmit not only game tactics, but also the mental strength necessary to manage the pressure of wearing the tricolor uniform in a world championship event.
The road to glory in Group A
The Dominican Republic has been placed in Group A, a highly demanding sector that it shares with Japan, Mexico, Cuba, Germany, and South Africa. The matches for this initial stage will take place at the Kukulcán Álamo park in Mérida. The Dominican team’s schedule is as follows:
- Debut against Cuba.
- Successive matchups against Mexico, Germany, South Africa, and Japan.
The top three teams from this preliminary phase will earn their ticket to the Super Round, where the tournament finalists will be determined.
