Jet Set Movement demands justice and equity in judicial process for tragedy
Members and supporters of the Jet Set Movement held a vigil in front of the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice, with the aim of demanding firm and transparent action from judicial authorities. The demonstration sought, primarily, to guarantee equal treatment for the families affected in the legal process following the tragic loss of human lives.
Equality lawsuits in court
During the gathering, Damaris Martínez de Guzmán, representative of those affected, denounced the existence of alleged privileges favoring the opposing party. According to her statements, the perception of the family members is that the judicial system is not providing the same conditions to all parties involved.
That all the privileges they have be taken away because upon entering the Palace of Justice here, it seems like we are the perpetrators, not the victims. So we understand that justice must be for everyone.
Damaris Martínez de GuzmánMartínez de Guzmán emphasized the importance of the court allowing the formal presentation of the evidence collected by the plaintiffs, which, as he asserts, is decisive for reaching a fair verdict in accordance with the facts.
Demand for firmness from the legislative sector
Deputy Antonio Brito Rodríguez was present at the activity, showing solidarity with the families and highlighting the profound impact that the tragedy has had, especially in the municipality of Los Bajos de Haina, one of the communities most affected by the event.
The legislator made a direct call to the national judiciary to act decisively regarding the negligence surrounding the event. “I call on the Dominican justice system to act firmly and harshly against the weaknesses that existed in that place where that disaster occurred,” Brito Rodríguez pointed out.
Accusations against alleged perpetrators
For his part, José Luis Custodio, another participant in the vigil, directed strong criticism toward an individual identified as “Antonito,” whom he held responsible for the deaths that occurred. Custodio questioned the possible use of political, judicial, and economic influence to gain advantages within the judicial process.
