Dominican Republic seals its spot in the Kids Caribbean Series final with a historic no-hitter
The Dominican Republic team achieved a memorable performance in the III Caribbean Kids Series, securing their ticket to the grand final after shutting out the Tomateros de Culiacán, representatives of Mexico Red, 7-0. The victory was cemented by a gem of combined pitching that left the opposing offense without answers.
Absolute dominance from the mound
Right-hander Yemmy Marrero was the main architect of this feat, pitching 4.2 innings of total dominance. Marrero kept the Mexican batters at bay without allowing hits or runs, while also recording six strikeouts before reaching the regulatory limit of 70 pitches. With this performance, the pitcher accumulates an impressive streak of 9.2 consecutive innings without allowing a hit in the tournament.
The responsibility of closing the game fell to Isaac Brito, who came in as a reliever to retire the last batter and complete the third no-hitter in the history of this children’s tournament, this being the second one achieved in a combined manner.
The mound performance by Marrero and Brito was decisive in silencing a Mexican offense that could not find a way to decipher the Dominican pitches in a direct elimination game.
Hard-hitting offensive
The Quisqueyan attack began to take shape in the third inning, when Jeison Calcaño got on base and scored after a timely double by Yohandry Pérez. The latter, taking advantage of a defensive error, extended the initial lead to 2-0.
The match was decided in the fifth inning with a decisive five-run rally:
- Yohandry Pérez hit a two-run home run.
- Yemmy Marrero contributed with a sacrifice fly.
- Germán Paulino sealed the score with a two-run homer, adding his fourth home run of the competition.
Heading to the championship
With this resounding result, the Dominican representatives secure their place in the battle for the title of the III Caribbean Kids Series. The team is waiting to find out their opponent in the final, which will emerge from the matchup between the Federales de Chiriquí of Panama and the Jaguares de Nayarit of Mexico Green.
