Senasa Operation 2.0: Interrogations advance following massive arrests in the country
The Public Ministry has intensified legal actions following the recent execution of operation Senasa 2.0, an unprecedented deployment that seeks to dismantle an alleged corruption network operating within the National Health Insurance. This Saturday, several of the detainees were transferred to the headquarters of the Attorney General’s Office to undergo rigorous interrogations.
Details of the simultaneous operation
The most recent phase of this investigation covered a total of 37 raids executed in a coordinated manner at different strategic points of the national territory, including the National District, the Santo Domingo province, Santiago, Cotuí, and La Vega. As a result of these actions, the authorities confirmed the arrest of at least 28 people linked to the alleged criminal structure.
The deployment featured a robust contingent to ensure the success of the interventions:
- 45 career prosecutors leading the proceedings.
- 200 specialized agents of the National Police.
- 16 members of the Criminal Investigation Unit.
- Tactical support from the National Directorate of Investigation (DNI).
Evidence and corruption scheme under scrutiny
During the searches, the investigation teams managed to seize a significant amount of cash, various vehicles, firearms, and other assets that will be used as evidence in the judicial process. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the core of this investigation focuses on a scheme of fraudulent medical authorizations.
The authorities have placed under scrutiny a total of 4,363 irregular medical authorizations, which amount to more than 41 million pesos, corresponding to services that, according to the testimonies of the affiliates, were never requested nor received.
