DiDi launches special promotion for students for back to school

With the start of the new academic period, mobility becomes a critical aspect for thousands of students in the Dominican Republic. Given the increase in vehicular flow and the high demand for transportation in the university areas of Greater Santo Domingo and Santiago, the DiDi platform has announced a savings initiative designed to facilitate the daily commutes of the student community.

From August 26 to October 31, 2026, students will be able to benefit from a 20% discount on their round trips to participating campuses, with a savings cap of 55 Dominican pesos (DOP) per trip. This benefit will be applied automatically in the DiDi Express and DiDi Set Your Price modes, eliminating the need to enter promotional codes.

The challenge of university mobility

The return to classrooms usually increases the demand for mobility services by approximately 10%. This increase responds to a complex reality: many students spend a large part of their day commuting. According to recent research, 63% of students at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) spend between one and two hours a day commuting, while 72% admit to having arrived late to their academic commitments due to traffic congestion.

The company’s goal is to offer options that meet the mobility needs of the university community and, at the same time, allow for a reduction in some of the expenses associated with transportation.

Participating universities

The promotion is available at the busiest higher education centers in the country:

  • Greater Santo Domingo: UASD, UTESA, PUCMM, UCSD, UNICARIBE, O&M, UNAPEC and UNIBE.
  • Santiago de los Caballeros: PUCMM, UASD, UTESA and UAPA.

Safety on every journey

Beyond the economic incentive, the platform reaffirms its focus on the safety of its users. The company reports that 99.99% of trips made through its application in the country conclude without incident. To ensure the peace of mind of students, DiDi keeps various technological tools active, such as:

  • Identity verification for drivers.
  • PIN code system for the start of each trip.
  • Real-time route monitoring and sharing with trusted contacts.
  • Encrypted audio recording during the trip.
  • Personal data protection.

This strategy seeks to alleviate the financial burden on university students during the 2026 academic cycle, establishing itself as a strategic ally for those seeking punctuality and safety in their daily commutes.
