Conatel lifts restrictions on digital media in Venezuela
The National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) announced this Thursday the restoration of access to various news portals, both national and international, that were restricted within Venezuelan territory. This measure seeks to foster an environment of greater informational openness and pluralism in the country’s digital ecosystem.
The order, executed under the instructions of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, responds to the recommendations issued by the Program for Peace and Democratic Coexistence. This body suggested eliminating barriers to media access following a process of dialogue and consultations with various actors in the sector, including representatives of public, private, and alternative media.
Technical implementation of the unlocking
To make this provision effective, Conatel notified internet service providers (ISPs) to enable the domains within their infrastructures. Users have already begun to notice the difference in browsing, allowing direct access to sites that previously required external tools to be viewed.
Among the media outlets that have recovered their connectivity are:

- Caraota Digital
- Crónica Uno
- EFE
- Efecto Cocuyo
- El Estímulo
- El Pitazo
- Monitoreamos
- Runrunes
- Semana Magazine
Although this is a significant step, it is important to note that this measure is partial. Organizations specializing in digital monitoring have warned that numerous domains still remain blocked in the country, which indicates that the opening process is in an initial stage.
