CODOTATUR disassociates itself from the demonstration called in Bávaro-Punta Cana
Santiago Samora, president of the Dominican Confederation of Tourist Taxi Drivers (CODOTATUR), has issued an official statement clarifying that both the institution he presides over and its affiliated federations and unions in the Bávaro-Punta Cana area do not support and will not be part of the demonstration scheduled for this Saturday, August 15, at the Coco Loco intersection.
The leader was emphatic in pointing out that the call circulating in the public sphere lacks institutional representation. According to Samora, this call for protests does not reflect the sentiment of the unions that make up the confederation, which are committed to alternative ways to resolve the sector’s current problems.
CODOTATUR is not calling for, is not promoting, and is not supporting this demonstration, and our affiliated federations and unions are not participating in or endorsing that call either. Our position is clear; we firmly believe in dialogue, in consensus-building, and in the ability of authorities and organized sectors to sit at a table to find solutions.

Commit to regional stability
Samora underscored the strategic importance of the Eastern region for the national economy, highlighting that tourism, transportation, and commerce are fundamental pillars for the livelihood of thousands of families. Under this premise, he urged the various social actors to act responsibly so as not to compromise the climate of investment and labor stability that characterizes this area of the country.
For the CODOTATUR board, the defense of the interests of transport workers should not necessarily be linked to social pressure measures. On the contrary, they propose a roadmap focused on the following pillars:
- Promotion of direct dialogue with government authorities.
- Use of institutional mechanisms for raising concerns.
- Seeking agreements that generate concrete benefits for the community.
- Maintaining a climate of peace that favors tourism activity.
Finally, the union leader recalled that CODOTATUR’s trajectory has been built on a constant working relationship with the regulatory institutions of tourist transport. Samora concluded by reaffirming that consensus is the most effective tool to achieve development and prevent conflicts from affecting the collective well-being of the inhabitants of Bávaro and Punta Cana.
