Santo Domingo Norte inaugurates its first Municipal Sports Games
The mayor of Santo Domingo Norte, Betty Gerónimo, formally inaugurated the first municipal Sports Games, an event that seeks to transform the athletic landscape of the municipality. This initiative, which will run until September 27th, has the fundamental purpose of strengthening community integration, promoting discipline, and providing a space for development for local youth.
The opening ceremony, held at the El CROM Multipurpose Center, was attended by prominent figures of national sports, including the star members of The Queens of the Caribbean, Yonkaira Peña and Aliana Sánchez, who served as an inspiration for the hundreds of athletes present.
When we arrived at the Mayor’s Office, we found that sports and young people had been forgotten, and our administration has taken them into account. Today we are demonstrating that our athletes have a space and that they have a Mayor’s Office that believes in them and their capabilities.

Competition disciplines and venues
The games encompass diverse disciplines that will be contested simultaneously in multiple facilities throughout the municipality to ensure broad participation of athletes from Villa Mella, Sabana Perdida, Los Guaricanos, and La Victoria:
- Basketball: Guaricanos Multipurpose Court.
- Baseball: Los Cleto, La Sánchez, and Carbu fields.
- Softball: Buena Vista Primera, El Mamey, Licey-La Esperanza, and Jacagua-Higüero stadiums.
- Volleyball: Lotes y Servicios (Sabana Norte), Club Víctor Burgos (Sabana Sur), and El CROM indoor courts.
For the municipal administration, this event transcends simple competition, consolidating itself as a platform to instill essential values such as teamwork, perseverance, and resilience in the face of challenges. The mayor emphasized that the goal is to establish a sporting legacy that endures over time and continues to promote social well-being in every sector of Santo Domingo Norte.
After the inaugural ceremony, Gerónimo toured various courts and stadiums to oversee the start of the matches, interacting closely with the families and coaches who are an integral part of this unprecedented sporting effort in the district.
