National Drug Council promotes Preventive Civic Day in Hato Mayor

The National Drug Council (CND) launched in Hato Mayor the Preventive Civic Day titled “The Vision of Communities in Prevention Actions for a Healthy Family.” This meeting, held at the facilities of the Hato Mayor-Maguá Rotary Club, Inc., served as a key space for dialogue, citizen participation, and the construction of joint solutions regarding substance use.

The main objective of this initiative is to integrate community leaders and social organizations in identifying the challenges faced by vulnerable sectors, allowing citizens to be protagonists in the creation of effective strategies against the consumption of psychoactive substances.

Official voices for prevention

The CND representation was led by Lohadis Ureña, Director of Drug Prevention and Health Promotion Strategies; advisor Julio de Peña, and the coordinator of the event, Bernardo Adán de la Cruz. During the event, the officials emphasized the need for a collaborative approach.

Bringing prevention directly to the neighborhoods and listening to those who live these realities is fundamental to building truly effective public policies.

For his part, Julio de Peña stressed that success in the fight against risk factors depends on the synergy between the State and civil society. In the same vein, Bernardo Adán de la Cruz highlighted that local leadership is the necessary engine to articulate families in defense of health and peaceful coexistence.

Project methodology

The Preventive Civic Day is articulated through three strategic phases designed to ensure sustainable results:

  • Call and organization: Identification and integration of social leaders and entities with local influence.
  • Participation and proposals: Collection of reflections and solutions raised directly by community members.
  • Preventive Citizen Congress: Final space for the validation and approval of proposals that will be integrated into national public policies.

This meeting in Hato Mayor marks the starting point of an ambitious tour that will take these sessions to the main municipalities of the 31 provinces and the National District, consolidating the National Drug Council’s commitment to the integral health of the Dominican population.
