Carolina Mejía emerges as the favorite within the PRM’s internal structures heading into 2027
Communicator Hansel García, coordinator of the Politikal space, asserted that the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, has managed to consolidate solid support among the historical cadres and the base of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). According to the analyst, this support is key ahead of the political organization’s internal convention, scheduled for the year 2027.
García maintains that Mejía’s figure resonates strongly within the militancy due to his level of representativeness and because he embodies the party’s original identity. This connection with the grassroots is, in the communicator’s view, a differentiating factor compared to other figures who have been mentioned for the presidential candidacy.
The traditional PRM member, those who were the builders of the party, for the most part have closed ranks and will continue to do so with Carolina Mejía, because she is the one who truly resembles the essence of the PRM member.

The reality of a closed convention
The analyst underscored that there is a notable gap between media perception and internal electoral reality. While various names may appear on social media and in external polls, García emphasizes that, in a closed convention, the weight falls on the mobilization capacity of territorial structures and historical roots.
In this sense, the communicator highlighted several key points regarding the internal landscape of the ruling party:
- Support for Carolina Mejía is bolstered by the influence of former President Hipólito Mejía within the territorial structures.
- Wellington Arnaud appears as the second candidate with the most traction among militants closest to the party’s roots.
- Although David Collado’s team holds significant electoral weight, the closed convention favors those who maintain more direct control over the traditional leadership.
García insisted that internal contests are not won solely by external popularity, but by the ability to get supporters to the polls on the day of the convention, a terrain where the mayor seems to hold the strategic advantage.
The challenge of unity for 2028
Finally, the Politikal coordinator warned that the future of the PRM in power for the 2028 period depends on the political maturity with which the party handles this internal process. For García, the organization’s great challenge is to understand that, although many aspire to the presidential nomination, cohesion must prevail to guarantee the continuity of the political project.
PRM members have and must understand that everyone can be part of the government, but not everyone can be president. That is the great challenge they have ahead of them for 2027.
