Canada dominates Puerto Rico and secures its spot in the final for the Olympic ticket

The Canadian women’s national volleyball team authoritatively secured their spot in the decisive match for qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The Canadian squad defeated Puerto Rico this Friday in straight sets (25-16, 25-22, and 25-10) during the match held at the Ricardo Gioriver Arias Volleyball Palace, located in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Following this victory, the current champions of the 2026 NORCECA Continental Championship keep their Olympic dream intact. Now, the Canadian team awaits their opponent in the final duel, which will be determined by the match between the hosts, the Dominican Republic, and the Cuban team.

Leadership and match statistics

Canada’s attack was led by Kiera Van Ryk, who had an outstanding performance by recording 20 points, broken down into 13 effective spikes and three key blocks. For her part, Emily Maglio supported the offense with nine units.

On the opposite side, the Puerto Rican team found in Decelise Annalee Champion its main offensive reference, scoring 12 points, all of them obtained through her outstanding work in blocking.

Canada will seek to close its participation with another victory and secure its presence at the 2028 Olympic event.
