Iran denounces “war crime” after US attack on a wedding
Iranian authorities have strongly raised their voices to label the recent bombings carried out by the United States in the south of Iranian territory as a “war crime.” The offensive, which occurred on Tuesday night, struck a home in the village of Kuhestak, located in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, just as a wedding ceremony was being held.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the events, noting that the attack represents a flagrant violation of the basic principles of international law by directly targeting the civilian population. According to official reports, the tragic toll amounts to four people dead, including a four-year-old child, in addition to 68 injured, of whom 50 required hospitalization.
Escalation of tensions and attacks against civilians
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has linked this event to other previous incidents recorded within the framework of the current conflict. The institution recalled the attacks in Minab, where 168 students and teachers lost their lives, and in Lamerd, where 21 deaths were reported. Likewise, systematic attacks against civil infrastructure have been reported, including telecommunications stations in the provinces of Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, and Kerman.
The U.S. offensive on Tuesday left a total death toll of 18, including four members of the Revolutionary Guard, triggering an immediate response from Iran against U.S. military bases in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical point of the conflict
Tension has intensified due to the dispute over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route vital for maritime trade and the global oil supply. Tehran has used this location as a pressure mechanism, demanding authorizations for vessel transit, which has paralyzed a large portion of oil exports since the start of hostilities on February 28th.
Although experts in the region point out that the United States has managed to enable an alternative southern route near Oman to maintain part of the maritime traffic, the situation remains volatile. The international community watches with concern as this constant exchange of attacks continues to aggravate the humanitarian crisis and affect the stability of international maritime transport.
