Avianca imposes sanction on Yeferson Cossio after incident on board
The airline Avianca has notified a disciplinary measure against the well-known content creator Yeferson Cossio, restricting his access to its services until August 21, 2027. This decision stems from an altercation that occurred on March 11 during a flight covering the Bogota-Madrid route, where the influencer activated a device that released a strong chemical odor in the cabin.
The legal conflict, which began on March 29 with a lawsuit filed by the airline, came to an end through a restorative justice process. As part of the agreements reached, the influencer offered formal apologies to the crew of flight AV46 and to the company, accepting the sanction imposed for his behavior.
Mr. Yeferson Cossio agreed to refrain from using Avianca’s services until August 21, 2027. Likewise, he apologized to Avianca S.A. and the crew of flight AV46 for his behavior, which were accepted within the framework of the restorative process carried out between the parties.

Incident details and opposing positions
At the time, the influencer with more than twelve million followers argued that the activation of the device, known as a stink bomb, was an accident caused by depressurization and that he did not intend to cause harm. According to his version, the object did not pose a real risk to the integrity of the aircraft due to its limited and transient effect.
However, the airline maintained a firm stance, pointing out that the incident compromised the safety, order, and comfort of the passengers, in addition to affecting the sanitation of the flight. The company’s concern lay in the location of the aircraft at the time of the event, as it was flying over the Atlantic Ocean, far from alternate airports in the event of a real emergency.
Zero tolerance policy
- The airline reaffirmed that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding behaviors that jeopardize operational safety.
- The restorative process allowed for the closure of the legal dispute between both parties.
- Avianca emphasized its commitment to a culture of respect toward employees and users.
With this resolution, the case is closed, reaffirming the strict regulations that govern air operations and the consequences passengers face when the peace and safety within the cabin are compromised.
