Strengthening border security: Army Commander oversees operations in the southern zone
The Commanding General of the Dominican Republic Army, Major General Jimmy Arias Grullón, is currently leading an exhaustive operational inspection tour along the southern border. The tour, which seeks to guarantee the integrity of national sovereignty, covers everything from the main access routes to the most remote and difficult-to-access military outposts in the border zone.
During this strategic visit, the military delegation directly evaluated road checkpoints and the operability of the forward outposts. Major General Arias Grullón personally supervised the conditions under which the soldiers operate, verifying the tactical equipment and the state of the recently renovated infrastructure, which are fundamental for containing the flow of irregular migration and maintaining order in the region.
A strategic journey towards sovereignty
The journey, which began at the Fifth Infantry Brigade headquarters in Barahona, will conclude this Saturday in the municipality of Jimaní. With this deployment, the military high command completes the cycle of operational audits that had already been previously executed on the country’s northern border.
We began this tour in Barahona, at the Fifth Brigade, and we estimate finishing on Saturday in Jimaní itself to complete everything that is the southern border towards the center. All these renovated detachments are in excellent condition, as are the troops, who are in an operational state of readiness to fulfill the mission.
Major General Jimmy Arias Grullón, Commanding General of the Army.In this deployment, the commanding general was accompanied by Brigadier General Luis Alberto Coronado, supervisor of the Intelligent Perimeter Fence and Border Markets; Brigadier General Freddy Soto Thormann, commander of the Fifth Infantry Brigade; as well as by the commanders of the battalions responsible for operational security in the provinces of Barahona, Pedernales, and Independencia.
This action reaffirms the commitment of the Dominican military forces to constant surveillance and the modernization of critical border points, ensuring that each detachment has the necessary resources to fulfill its national security functions.
