Pitching restructuring: The Angels announce changes to their coaching staff
The Los Angeles Angels organization has begun a transformation process in its pitching staff. This Tuesday, the team made official the departure of three key members of its coaching staff: pitching coach Mike Maddux, bullpen coach Dom Chiti, and assistant pitching coach Darryl Scott.
These moves, which seek to give the team a fresh start, were confirmed by John Mozeliak, the franchise’s baseball operations consultant. As he detailed, the decision was made after a deep analysis together with manager Kurt Suzuki, with the goal of redefining the strategy and the work program for the pitchers.
New interim leadership
Following the departure of the aforementioned coaches, the team has appointed internal figures to assume responsibilities on an interim basis for the remainder of the campaign:
- Tim Leveque: Will assume the role of pitching coach. Leveque arrived at the organization this year after an extensive two-decade career with the St. Louis Cardinals and had been serving as a coach for the Double-A team, Rocket City.
- Michael Wuertz: Will occupy the position of bullpen coach. Wuertz has eleven years of experience within the Angels and was recently serving as assistant pitching coordinator in the minor leagues.
We felt it was best to make a change. With seven weeks left in the season, we will use this time to evaluate the necessary measures that will allow us to strengthen our pitching system.

With this adjustment, the Angels’ management seeks not only to close the current season in the best way possible, but also to lay the foundations for a more solid and efficient pitching structure for the future of the organization.
