Luis Abinader highlights progress of the RD 2036 Goal and recognizes achievements in security and food
From New York City, President Luis Abinader reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the Meta RD 2036 initiative, an ambitious joint project between the public and private sectors designed to double the size of the Dominican economy over the next decade. During the Meta RD 2036 International Forum for Full Development, the president described the program’s progress as extremely positive.
The head of state explained that this space serves as a monthly dialogue platform where areas requiring adjustments are evaluated and growth strategies are consolidated. According to the president, the tangible impact of these policies is reflected in the notable decrease in poverty levels in the country.
We have been developing the necessary steps to double our economy by 2036. A clear example is the poverty level in the Dominican Republic, which has decreased significantly from the 25.9% recorded in 2019 to reach 17% last year, with projections to continue falling this year.

International recognition for food safety
On another note, the president reported that the Dominican Republic will be honored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). On October 10th, in Rome, Italy, the country will receive a certificate and official recognition for achieving Zero Hunger status, a milestone that underscores the success of national policies aimed at food security.
Regional security cooperation
During his agenda at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Abinader also participated in the Shield of the Americas initiative. In this meeting, which was attended by United States President Donald Trump, key strategies to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in the region were discussed.
Abinader emphasized the importance of international coordination to effectively confront criminal gangs, ensuring that collaboration with other countries is fundamental to guarantee stability and security throughout Latin America.
